An LED strip installation is only as good as its final verification. Before signing off on any project – whether residential or commercial – a systematic inspection ensures safety, performance, and longevity. Here's your essential checklist.

1. Visual Inspection

Before powering on:

· All strips are securely mounted – no peeling or lifting

· Connections are properly insulated (heat-shrink or tape)

· No exposed copper or loose wires

· Profiles are correctly aligned with no gaps

· End caps fitted on waterproof installations

After powering on:

· No visible flickering or strobing

· Uniform brightness across all sections

· Consistent colour temperature – no patchy variations

· No dark spots or dead LEDs

· Diffusers are clean and evenly lit

2. Electrical Testing

Voltage check:

· Measure voltage at the driver output – matches strip specification (12V or 24V)

· Measure voltage at the far end of each run – drop under 5%

· For 24V systems, far-end reading should be above 22.8V

· For 12V systems, far-end reading should be above 11.4V

Current check:

· Measure total current draw at the driver

· Compare with calculated total (W ÷ V) – should be within ±10%

Continuity:

· Test each connection point for continuity

· Verify no shorts between positive and negative

3. Driver and Controls

· Driver is securely mounted with adequate ventilation

· Driver wattage rating exceeds total strip load (with 20% margin)

· Dimmer/controller functions smoothly across 0–100% range

· No humming, buzzing, or overheating after 30 minutes

· Smart controls pair correctly and respond to commands

· Schedules or scenes (if configured) trigger as programmed

4. Dimming Performance

· Smooth dimming from 100% to 0% – no sudden jumps

· No flicker at any dimming level (test at 10%, 50%, and 90%)

· No colour shift during dimming (white remains white)

· Multiple zones dim uniformly and consistently

5. Physical Inspection

· Surface is clean and free of dust or debris

· Adhesive backing shows no signs of lifting

· All mounting clips or screws are secure

· Cable management is tidy – no loose or tangled wires

· No sharp bends or creases in the strip

6. Functional Testing

· All zones respond correctly to controls

· RGB strips display accurate colours (test red, green, blue, and white)

· Tunable white strips shift smoothly between warm and cool

· Motion sensors trigger as expected with correct delay settings

· Emergency or backup systems (if installed) function correctly

7. Thermal Performance

· After 1 hour of operation, strips are warm – not hot

· Driver temperature is within specified range (check datasheet)

· Aluminium profiles (if used) are dissipating heat effectively

· No discolouration or melting of adhesive or covers

8. Documentation

· As-installed wiring diagram completed

· Driver models, wattages, and voltage recorded

· Dimmer/controller settings documented

· Photos taken for client records

· Warranty information provided to the client
